CID Intern Program

UNESCO Intern Program at the Center for Intercultural Dialogue
University of Oregon

2012/13 Internships
Application deadline Monday, March 30, 2012

The Center for Intercultural Dialogue supports and promotes interdisciplinary approaches to transcultural studies and interreligious dialogue as a means to promote peace. The Center works to engage students, faculty and community members in efforts to build a global community through education and dialogue that transcends cultural, religious, and geopolitical boundaries.

The UNESCO Intern Program at the Center for Intercultural Dialogue allows students the opportunity to develop programming, facilitate collaborations among students, faculty, community members, and international scholars, and promote the mission of the center.

The Center for Intercultural Dialogue was established in 2008 at the University of Oregon under the direction of Steven Shankman, UNESCO Chair for Transcultural Studies, Interreligious Dialogue and Peace. The Center’s affiliation with UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) and the UNITWIN network on Interreligious Dialogue for Intercultural Understanding allows us to facilitate conversations and collaborations between the University of Oregon, the Pacific Northwest, and the broader international community.

UNESCO 2012/2013 AY Interns

The UNESCO Intern Program seeks graduate and undergraduate students during each term of the 2012/2013 academic year to assist the Director and Assistant Director in the operations of and programming for the Center. In addition, the interns will help the Director in his role as Coordinator for the UNITWIN network on Interreligious Dialogue for Intercultural Understanding.

Academic Credit and Commitment: Each intern is expected to commit 80-100 hours per term (8-10 hours per week). The intern can earn 2-3 credits in his/her own department or through one of the Center’s affiliated faculty.

CID is recruiting interns with experience or research interests in criminal justice and prison issues who can help organize, strategize and implement programs and activities related to the “Prisons and Peace” initiative. In addition, CID seeks an intern with communications experience in website management, social media and design.

Internships will be selected on a per-term basis, with preference given to applicants who are interested in a two- to three-term commitment. Preference will be to award one undergraduate and one graduate, though final selection will be based upon qualifications of the applicant pool.
